2008 Olympic gold medalist Bryan Clay was disqualified in the 110 meter hurdles to the USA Olympic trials for the decathlon. Bryan Clay was initially disqualified from the decathlon 110m hurdles on for two infractions. One was knocking over a hurdle with his hand and the other was for failure to attempt to clear the next hurdle.

Clay’s coach protested the disqualification and the ruling for Clay’s hand knocking over the hurdle was overturned. The disqualification for failure to attempt to clear the next hurdle, however, was upheld.

Clay ended up with no mark in the hurdles and did not qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London. Clay would have had the opportunity to be the first decathlete to win 3 Olympic medals.
